(PIKESVILLE, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating multiple carjackings and three related vehicle crashes that occurred this morning along I-83 South in Baltimore County and Baltimore City.
At about 8:30 a.m. this morning, the driver of a Honda Civic was involved in a three-vehicle crash at I-83 South in the area of Timonium Road. According to a preliminary investigation, the driver of the Honda, who was an unauthorized user of the car, flagged down a female driving a Lexus before carjacking that vehicle.
The suspect, a 28-year-old male from Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, then crashed the Lexus at I-83 South at the Jones Falls Expressway before carjacking another female who was driving a Toyota Corolla. The suspect then crashed the Toyota at I-83 South at Northern Parkway. He attempted to carjack a third female’s vehicle but was stopped by a Good Samaritan.
According to a preliminary investigation, the suspect then tried to steal the Good Samaritan’s vehicle. However, that driver was able to pull him out of the vehicle before he could drive away.
The suspect was apprehended at the scene by a Baltimore City sheriff’s deputy, who turned him over to the state police. The suspect was transported to Sinai Hospital for treatment of his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending charges being filed in this case.
One victim, a passenger in the other vehicle of the initial crash, was injured as a result of this incident. There was no one else in the vehicle with the suspect at the time of any of the crashes.
Maryland State Police were not involved in a pursuit with the suspect. The off-ramp from I-83 South to Northern Parkway, the site of the final crash, was the only road closure as a result of the incident. The case remains under investigation.
