The deceased is identified as Joel Garcia, 42, of Denton, Maryland. He was the operator of a John Deere lawn mower. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of a Toyota Tundra, a 32-year-old male, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Shortly before 3:30 p.m. yesterday, troopers from the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack responded to the area of Burrsville Road near Garland Road for a report of a crash involving a pickup truck and a lawn mower. The preliminary investigation indicates that the lawn mower, operated by Garcia, was traveling on the westbound shoulder of Burrsville Road when, for unknown reasons, the Toyota pickup left the roadway and struck the lawn mower.
Lanes were closed for more than six hours for the crash investigation. Assistance on scene was provided by emergency medical services personnel from Caroline County, personnel from the Caroline County Fire Department, and Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team continues to lead the active and ongoing investigation.
