(WOODBINE, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a crash that killed one person and injured another early Friday morning in Howard County.
Shortly after midnight on Friday, troopers from the Waterloo Barrack responded to the area of eastbound Interstate 70 at Marriottsville Road in Woodbine, Maryland, on a report of a two-vehicle crash. According to a preliminary investigation, a male driving a Lincoln MKZ was traveling east on I-70 when he crashed into a large tree that had fallen into the road. As a result of the crash, the Lincoln rotated clockwise before being struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe before both vehicles came to rest.
The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe, identified as Mark McCluskey, 51, of Baltimore, Maryland, was transported to Howard County General Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the Lincoln, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was declared deceased at the scene by the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
I-70 East was closed for about four hours in the area of the crash. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with the road closure.
The crash remains under investigation.
