State Police Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash In Charles County

(WALDORF, Md.) — Maryland State Police are continuing to investigate a fatal hit-and-run crash reported this morning in Charles County.

At approximately 3:55 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded on a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on southbound Maryland Route 5 in the area of Montgomery Lane in Waldorf, Maryland. Due to the seriousness of the collision, a request was made for the Maryland State Police CRASH Team to respond and assume the investigation.

According to a preliminary investigation, troopers from the La Plata Barrack and the Maryland State Police CRASH Team found that the victim, Aaron Markeith Rust, 34, of Waldorf, Maryland, was standing or walking in the road when he was struck by a vehicle.

The striking vehicle fled the scene after the crash. Investigators believe that the striking vehicle was a newer model white Ford F-250 or F-350 Crew Cab with right front headlamp damage. Below is a picture of the possible striking vehicle. Rust was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The investigation is continuing and being investigated by Trooper M. Moorman of the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack and Corporal J. Zimmerman of the Maryland State Police CRASH Team (19-MSP-033853).

All persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
