(ARBUTUS, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred this morning in Baltimore County.
Shortly after 7:20 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack responded on a report of a pedestrian crash in the area of I-95 South at I-695 in Arbutus, Maryland. According to a preliminary investigation, the victim, a male, was at the scene of a disabled vehicle located in the shoulder of I-95.
Witnesses told investigators that a white Ford van drifted into the shoulder, sideswiped the victim’s vehicle and struck the victim. The victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the van remained on site.
The driver of the van, Cesar Jariel Morel Cruz, 26, of Baltimore, Maryland, was arrested at the scene on suspected driving under the influence. Cruz was transported to the Golden Ring Barrack for processing. Maryland State Police are consulting with the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office regarding potential charges related to this case.
I-95 South was partially closed as a result of the crash. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is investigating this case.
