State Police Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash In Baltimore County

(ESSEX, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Monday evening in Baltimore County.

The victim is identified as Alexander Lewis, 36, of Baltimore, Maryland. Lewis was pronounced deceased at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the driver and sole occupant of a Ford Focus involved in the crash. There were no other injuries reported at the scene.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Monday evening, troopers from the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack responded to the report of a single-vehicle crash on outer loop Interstate 695 prior to Maryland 702 (Southeast Boulevard). According to a preliminary investigation, a Ford Focus was traveling north on I-695 when for unknown reasons, traveled off the roadway and crashed into a tree.

Two lanes were closed on the outer loop for more than 2 hours following the crash. Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with road closures. Emergency medical services personnel from Baltimore County also responded to the scene to assist.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation. Anyone with information pertaining to this crash is asked to contact the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack at 410-780-2700.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
