The Maryland State Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, March 17, 2006, St. Patrick's Day. The operation will be conducted with the five States and the District of Columbia campaign, "Checkpoint StrikeForce." The goal is to reduce the number of drunk and drugged drivers on Charles County roadways during the St. Patrick's Day celebration. A briefing will be held at the La Plata Barrack at 10:00 p.m.

As a reminder, the Maryland State Police would like to advise all citizens, if you or someone you know has had too much to drink, please get a designated driver to drive you home or call Safe Rides at 1-866-293-0623. Safe Rides will provide a ride home in Charles County from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. on St. Patrick?s Day.

To report intoxicated drivers please dial #77 on your cellular phone. This is a free call to the closest Maryland State Police Barrack. If possible, stay on the phone and give as much details as you can (your location, direction of travel, tag number, color of vehicle, and a description of your vehicle).

The Maryland State Police would like to wish all a safe and sober St. Patrick's Day.
