Maryland tolls to rise this summer

Starting in July, tolls to use several Maryland bridges and tunnels will go up.

Crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the Gov. Harry Nice Bridge will go from $4 to $6 in cash, and $3.60 to $5.40 for E-ZPass drivers.

Tolls on Baltimore's two tunnels and the Key Bridge will also go up, as well as the Thomas J. Hatem Bridge near Havre de Grace. See the full list of toll changes here. (PDF)

"We're using the funds that we get to keep those facilities in good repair, and make them reliable for everyone," says Harold M. Bartlett, Executive Secretary at the Maryland Transportation Authority, which operates toll bridges.

Not to downplay this at all, but from my point of view, it's a drop in the bucket increase.

Costs me $65 to go to NY and back, most of that are from the $9 and $12 tolls getting thru NJ and NY.

Just be REALLY REALLY glad no one is proposing a toll for the TJB.

I laugh every time I pull up the traffic cams for the ICC and the roads are half empty.

I am weird enough that I probobly would, especially if it was not being run by the state of MD. I hate the bridge that crosses over to VA. Maybe I will not feel so strongly about it IF or When they build the new one but I am really starting to feel stuck here (on this little penninsula of ours). Makes me wanna pay the toll in all pennies to atleast the toll booth attendent gets to share in my unhappiness. We have been stuck in traffic for hours coming back home because no one knows how to merge to get onto the bridge. It sucks because I feel like I can not come up with a good evacuation plan that I am happy with because I would rather not include that bridge and I would rather not go in the direction of DC.

I drove part of that in 2000 doing an job in Balt. I was staying in Gaithersburg at the time .......

East Gude Dr, to Norbeck /28 to Bel-Pre changes to Bonifiant @ Layhill Rd to New Hampshire to Smencerville rd / 198 over 29 to 95 north .... passing many signs against the ICC

that would be a quick trip now with the ICC - well worth the couple of bucks to avoid all the traffic lights
