On Friday, April 30, Lt. Governor Boyd K. Rutherford and Brigadier General Janeen Birckhead visited a vaccination clinic at Morgan State University, the largest HBCU in Maryland. The State of Maryland is partnering with the university to host a three-day-a-week clinic for students, faculty, staff, and the broader community.

GoVAX Doctors is a new public service announcement (PSA) featuring physicians from across the state who discuss the safety of COVID-19 vaccines and encourage all eligible Marylanders to get vaccinated. Learn more.
BRINGING MORE VACCINES TO HBCUs. On Monday, April 26, members of the VETF joined medical and public health experts at Bowie State University to discuss the COVID-19 vaccine and address myths and concerns to combat vaccine hesitancy in the African American community. After the town hall, approximately 100 COVID-19 vaccinations were administered to students and community members. Read about the vaccination clinic.
NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE. The work of the VETF, which has now completed more than 200 missions, was highlighted in a new piece published by New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst. Read the full article.
MEETING MARYLANDERS WHERE THEY ARE. The VETF has worked to launch mobile vaccination clinics in hard-to-reach areas utilizing mobile units provided by the University of Maryland School of Nursing and staffed by the Maryland National Guard. Each mobile vaccine bus has the versatility to be used as a walk-in clinic or a drive-up site to administer between 60 to 160 vaccines per mission. Learn where they’ve been so far.
PROGRESS IN TARGETED ZIP CODES. The hard-hit zip codes where the VETF is partnering with community leaders to hold vaccine clinics are showing significant improvement in vaccine uptake.

ELIGIBILITY. Marylanders age 16 and older are now eligible to get vaccinated at any of the state’s mass vaccination sites and are eligible through all providers. Marylanders are encouraged to pre-register for appointments at mass vaccination sites via covidvax.maryland.gov or 1-855-MD-GOVAX.
ABOUT
The Maryland Vaccine Equity Task Force (VETF), led by Maryland National Guard Brigadier General Janeen Birckhead, works in partnership with the state’s 24 local health departments to focus COVID-19 vaccination efforts on underserved, vulnerable, and hard-to-reach populations to ensure the equitable delivery of vaccines.
The task force will leverage resources with close ties to key communities, including the state’s Vaccine Advisory Group, the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives, the state’s network of Medicaid providers, and additional public sector and community partners.
