If you are behind in your mortgage payments due to involuntary unemployment, underemployment, or a medical event, and are under a threat of foreclosure, then you may be eligible for Maryland's Emergency Mortgage Assistance (EMA) Program.

To find out if you qualify for this program, visit the HOPE (Home Owners Preserving Equity): Foreclosure Prevention/ Assistance Program website to complete the Pre-Application checklist. If you qualify, download and complete an application and all required documents and send via Fed Ex or Priority mail to:

If you prefer to submit your application in person, please call to register at 410-514-7268, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by email at singlefamilyhousing@dhcd.state.md.us. Let them know you wish to register for EMA Direct. Provide two preferred dates with appointment times and include your e-mail address and telephone number. A confirmation e-mail will then be sent when your appointment has been scheduled.

EMA Direct will be held at the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Headquarters located at 100 Community Place in Crownsville, Maryland. The available dates and times for EMA Direct are:

-- Saturday, June 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
-- Thursday, June 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The window to apply for the EMA program closes in September, please act now.
