Massive School Meeting in California, MD.

I am referring to the middle school on Maple Drive in California (don't know the name). I drove by there this morning about 0830. Cars were lined up on both sides of the spruce Drive for about a 1/4 mile. Fortunately no car was coming the other way as I don't think we could have cleared each other. The school parking lot was packed as was the couple of acres for the ball fields beside the school.

Anybody know what's coming on? Seems like a dangerous situation was created.

Yes, that's Esperanza. The school was probably having an eighth-grade graduation assembly, which would explain the number of extra cars.

it's called lack of parking. just be glad it was limited to two family members per child and was only the eighth grade.
Most schools in the county lack suffiecient parking for such events. There is only enough parking for staff and maybe a few visitors. And being that they have little open ground around the school, on street is the only alternative.

There were plenty of parking spaces available in the parking lot where the buses park. I got there 10 min before the ceremony started, and it wasn't even half filled. We were directed to park one right in back of another, so we were sandwiched in. There was a good amount of people directing cars where to go. Unfortunately, they didn't have a guy posted at the entrance, so a lot of people didn't know about the parking. Either that, or they wanted to get out quick after the ceremony.

A lot of us prefer parking on the street instead of the door dinging lot.

Well THAT makes sense. Get sideswiped or rear-ended instead of getting a door ding - that way the insurance will cover having it fixed. I never thought of it that way before!

LOL, well if you had been there 15 min before it was suppose to start you would have been directed to the fields next to the school. Those arriving earlier probably did not have either choice as the bus lot is usually closed while they are dropping off or picking up students. That left only the small "parking lot". This fills up quickly since it's the lot were the staff parks. The fact remains that the schools in general do not have sufficient parking when they hold any type of public event.

I have to agree....

Also, for all those complaining about the size of the parking areas... Simplying saying the lots are too small is an easy thing to say, but not very well thought out. Asphalt, concrete curbs, the storm drain infrastructure that has to be incorporated, etc. are all VERY expensive. Then of course you have to deal with those that will then complain there isn't enough grassed areas for the students activities because of the massive parking areas that barely get used.... You decide what makes more sense.

8th grade graduation? Never heard of such a thing, how lame. Sounds like something cooked up by Jostens to sell caps, gowns, robes, and other crappy overpriced keepsakes.
