Mastiff Needs a home

Because of some horrible circumstances I need to find a home for my 2 year old Mastiff. This was, and still is not an easy decision for me so please refrain from telling me how horrible I am. He is a 2 year old neutered Mastiff, he is up to date on all shots, and is on heartworm preventative. He does have hip dysplasia but I give him glucosamine daily and he has no problems. He prefers woman to men, and although he is excellent with my 5 year old daughter I would not feel comfortable to have him around other children. The neighborhood kids liked to tease him and he has no tolerance for them anymore. He is a wonderful companion and honestly my best friend. I will only consider someone who has experience with large dogs, and I will need a Vet reference. Please PM me if you are interested. I will contact the Mastiff rescue if I can't find a perfect match, but if you are truly interested in a gentle giant please let me know.

Sometimes there are circumstances beyond our control that force us to make decisions regarding rehoming our pets. I wish you the best of luck. Actually, if I were you, I'd contact Mastiff rescue. They will make sure your baby finds a good home and one that is suited to his particular needs and understanding of his breed. :yay:

He is fawn, an american mastiff which was bred for a dry mouth(not true), he is good with other dogs, but because of his size alot of dogs pick on him. He wants to be a lap dog. He is lazy in the house, but loves to go for walks

From what I am reading in this thread and from my own experience with our very first chow (the first thing we bought on credit!!!) I have to agree with Catt.

You mention Neighborhood Kids teasing him and his low tolerance for it. That is exactly what happened with my smokey bear. I had no clue for weeks, until my neighbor finally told me. The bus stop was on the corner of the lot we lived on and I would leave him out during the day when I went to work. We rented this tiny trailer, specifically for it's fence so he could have a yard. Every school day they teased him. I still have the scars on my right hand from his bite. I cried like a baby the day we gave him up. To my vet, who arranged for him to become a guard dog at Raiford (sp?) prison in Florida. Because I could not bring myself to put him down. (He cost us several thousand dollars-a lot of money for a 2nd class and a wife that worked in the package store @ cecil field back then!!)

Let the rescue have him and place him in the proper home. JMO
And your doing the right thing. :huggy: My heart goes out to you and your family on such a hard decision.

:yeahthat: Unfortunately, Mastiffs are the only type of dog my Champ doesn't like - simply because they're bigger than him. I absolutely love those gentle giants and know this decision is heart wrenching.

I agree, very hard choice. It's the kids and their parents who need dog obediance class, and some owners. The rescue will find a good home. I'd take him, but I have a lab and #### tuz already. Good Luck
