McAfee vs Spybot

Just downloaded the latest version of McAfee. Before it finished installing, a window popped up telling me I had to remove Spybot first (saying it was incompatible with McAfee...and prevents McAfee programs from running properly).

I never ran into this before, and have had both for a few years. I really beginning not to like McAfee. Any advice or thoughts on this? TIA.

We use Advanced Windows Care and Avast.

Spybot seemed to put stuff on the computer. Avast is FREE and works great! We've used it for about 3 years now.

Thanks, I always thought Spybot was a good thing. Maybe it's that which I need to download into the trash bin...

I've been using AVG Free for over 3 years now..no problems.

Just a hint, you may want to make sure you have everything off in regards to Spy Bot. Double check everything, it hides things.

I have that, too. They compete with each other, I've found. Wish I would have known about AVG when I bought it. :shrug:

I went through this discussion with Twisted once about trying to remove McAfee since I have AVG, same thing...lots of hidden files. After all, it is "spy" ware...

Yeah, before we ran Avast for the first time, we reformatted to get everything.

Thanks, RadioPatrol. I'll look into that one, also. I deleted (best I knew how) spybot, restarted, and man, it's running a lot quicker as well. BIL told me he runs his with McAfee and Windows Defender, and has had no problems (FWIW).

I've been using AVG Free for over 3 years now..no problems.

AVG Free is the best and has spyware detector included.
