McDonald's to take on a weakened Starbucks -- chicagotribune.com

McDonald's will be adding a position to its crew: barista.

McDonald's is setting out to poach Starbucks customers with the biggest addition to its menu in 30 years. Starting this year, the company's nearly 14,000 U.S. locations will install coffee bars with "baristas" serving cappuccinos, lattes, mochas and the Frappe, similar to Starbucks's ice-blended Frappuccino.

Internal documents from 2007 say the program, which also will add smoothies and bottled beverages, will add $1 billion to McDonald's annual sales of $21.6 billion.

I can just see the teenagers interviewing for the barista job - the one who can make the best "kkkkkhhhhhhhwwwwwweeeeerrrrrrrruuuuuu" sound gets the job.

I hope the coffee's not too hot.

:yeahthat:

:lmao:

to this idea I say...whatever...All competition does for the consumer is help keep the prices regulated. Whenever an empire runs an entire portion of market (ready-made coffee for instance), they jack the prices like a mofo...i'm all for McD gettin in on the consumer demand...(and they already sell that iced coffee thing right? So its not REALLY like this is a HUGE addition...just giving more selection to a current menu item basically )

Starbucks is like Microsoft in that there are other good products out there with more competitive pricing, but no one uses them because Starbucks (like Microsoft) has the brand recognition and positioning that gets the customers. That said, I think if anyone can do it, McDonald's will give Starbucks a run for the money and perhaps drive prices down. McFrapp anyone?!

nobody really

Why can't they just focus on keeping pubes out of their fries

Can I have a Big Mac and a Big McMocha? Doesn't sound like a good combo meal to me.
