They had electric cars back in the early 20th century so far we have advanced from that to go-carts and cars that will go 100 miles on an overnight charge. hell in another hundred years maybe we can get in an electric car and got to Ocean City and back.

Meanwhile lets just drill the damned gas and use it. If it doesnt bring the price down that bad, but it might. Either way we will have it if needed .

Like was said before, if we had drilled ten years ago we would be burning that fuel now. 10 years from now we may have no oil and people will say it will take ten years to get it.

That just is not smart.

Alternative energy, my friends...our future is in alternative energy. Not alternative sources of oil.

I predict that the next 5-10 years will see an explosion of alternate energy technology that will greatly reduce our oil supply needs. Why build a bunch of new oil wells now when we will need less oil by the time they would have been of any benefit? They'll be superfluous before they lose that new well smell.
What if we fail at developing a viable alternative energy source by then?

We need to think more like the ant and less like the grasshopper (something will come along).

Where we really need to put money is in getting more oil from wells, we get less than half the oil in a well currently.

I say "alternative energy" because that term encompasses all of the different technologies that are/will be available to us. Thre's no need to limit ourselves to just on or two forms. Eventually some forms may fall to the wayside as others prove to be better, but initially all of them should be able to contribute.

Batteries, ethanols (various sources will likely be reduced to the most efficient/abundant), solar, wind, hydro, nukular...and many others

It's all in motion. :yay:

I remember my parents telling me the computer was just a luxury, and that they always would be. There would never be a day when computers were used at every single office, school, government building, etc. in America.

I remember the invention of the DVD-ROM. Parents said "Nobody's going to watch TV on their computer screens." Now look at how vastly used Windows Media Center is, and how many people in America have TV Tuners hooked up to their computers. Just about every single television news site in America streams live video coverage online.

I remember when I used to "download" video clips. :roflmao:

"That's a waste of time. You can watch it on the TV. Why would you want to watch a clip from a TV show on a computer?" :killingme One word: YouTube. :lmao:

:jet: The invention of Windows.

Now that was amazing. :yay:

"Why would anybody want/need a computer mouse?" :roflmao:

And then, there was the laptop. :faint:

"They're slow, and expensive. Nobody will ever use laptops because they'll never meet anyones' needs." :roflmao:
There also have been plenty of inventions that people said would revolutionize the world.....remember the buzz surrounding the Segwey before it was revealed what it was? I remember hearing it will revolutionize transportation....blah blah..... its basically a toy.

Oh Wait .... your buying Carbon Offsets, like your Messiah Al Bore ...

WAhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :baby:

You're on the wrong side of The World. Nice!!! :yay:

Lucky for normal people, we believe in the power of progress. When enough people come together for a common cause, you can change the world.

When enough Republicans come together for a common cause, a few of them get richer.

You should wake the #### up. America..and The World, is rejecting your policies.

My parents on DVD: DVDs will never become the standard. Everyone in America has VHS, the DVD is the same thing as a videotape except it's on a smaller disk.

:roflmao:

My parents on gas going over $0.99/gal: :faint: I don't know how we're going to keep living with $1.00/gal. gas.

Oh, how I would love to go back 10-15 years in a time machine and tell my parents people would watch "Juan Pablo Montoya" win the NASCAR "Sprint Cup Series" TOYOTA 350 over the "internet" on their laptop computers while skipping through entire scenes of a movie (that they burned with their "DVD Burner") with their "DVD" remote because they didn't want to use any of their "$4.00/gallon gas" to go to Wal-Mart and buy it.

They'd probably look at me like I was a madman.

:roflmao:
Huh.

Good thing your parents weren't in charge. (no offense..my parents were the same.)

Looks like doofus SOMD Republicans live in a world of " We can't, we shouldn't, we won't".

Scared of change.

Explains MANY things.

Do you read/watch the news? People are buying hybrids like crazy! The hummer will soon be history, and Ford has "paused" production of Heavy Trucks.

American demand for transportation related gas is falling every single month.

Ya know..it's like you "Uber Americans" want us to be committed to antiquated tech. Why ???

Your parents actually discussed that with you - that computers were a luxury and always would be? Aren't you only 20? Sure, in 1988 maybe they were luxuries, but when were your parents telling you this when you were a 5 year old or something? Because even 5 - 10 years ago lots of people - not to mention almost every business I know of had some kind of computer - not to mention laptops were very prevalent. I know kids who graduated from college this year (1 was a 4yr and 1 had a 5yr program at a university) and they took laptops to college with them.

Drilling is nice and awesome. Yay!!! OIL!!!! :starcat:

Again...Instead of investing millions into the crapper that is oil, let's push it at something that we can capitalize and dominate.

Any investor worth his money would not invest in yesterday's technology.

Oil is limited, costly, and finite. Invest in the future. A future where the Middle East is nothing but a ghetto beating the frak outta each other.

Did you see your heros today? They were both going to the same place. Did they car pool? Did they even share the same plane? Of course not. Conservation is for the followers, not the party elite.

Go ahead, keep following them blindly. Keep believing them when they say they care. Keep believing they will do anything to to help.

Maybe they had little two foot solar panels on their planes and they were flying free. And maybe they were driving in those awesome solar powered cars you want us all to be driving. Yeah, that's it. That's the ticket.

And what are your "heroes" doing?

Telling people that we're just frakked...nothing we can do...but drill??? That's pretty sad.

Imagine JFK's speech, had he been Republican.

"Well..the moon is too far away. Screw it."

Ummm.....

"USA!!! USA!!!"

The GOP is the party of fear. The fear of change. Change really irritates those with no vision, and those that crap their pants at the thought of losing power.

The landslide of November, 2008 could bury the GOP forever.

America has had enough of you.

You clinch on that word Change like if though your wonderboy NObama is going to be the one making it. What's he going to change flip flopping all over the issues and providing no clear direction. He continually talks out of two sides of his mouth (what side will you be following?), and the deeper he gets into this race, the more and more he keeps catering to the people who have done nothing to change this country.

Everyday he continues to be molded by the very same people who have not changed anything in our country and without them, his dream of the White House will be shattered. NObama will be more of the same, you may view it as change but he's nothing more than an inexperience witch doctor feeding you placebo's with the illusion things will feel better. The DemoRats have the power of the Senate, if the combined force of them all cannot demonstrate any solid leadership or Change, whats your delusion that 1 man will be able to do it.

NObama will lead you to the desert and make you drink the sand and convince you its good for you, when you finally question why, he'll tell you it's change!!! :coffee:

Honestly..once you accused Obama of flip-flopping (2nd sentence, I believe)...I stopped reading.

You want flip-flop..you want McCain.

Too bad...because you finally may have had potential in that one post....but pooped your pants right at the start. :ohwell:

Good thinking! :yay:

Or, if you live in a house that's powered by an electric company's solar array, you could just recharge the batteries by plugging them into the wall.
Ooh, you wanna do the math on the demands of an electrical grid for an entire region and calculate the SIZE of that array? Electrical distribution is also very lossy - so it'd have to be bigger. And all it would take to shut the thing down is -

Clouds. Or worse ---

Sundown. Yep, nuclear, coal, hydro, natural gas - they run all day and night. Your solar array goes off at the end of the day.

-----------------------
There's a fundamental problem here you're not addressing, and your mantra is still "alternative, alternative, alternative" and absolutely without much thought as to WHAT it will be. I just can't believe you're saying NO to drilling but pinning your hopes on something you have no idea what it will be. I mean you might as well pin it on nuclear fusion, something that may never be commercially viable - because it's clean technology and sounds cool.

Anyway, that fundamental problem is if we shift to electricity as the primary source of power - where's it gonna come from? Do you have any idea the size a wind farm would be needed to say, power this county, let alone a metropolitan region such as DC? Ok, maybe not wind. How about solar? Ummm, no - not unless you tell everyone in Virginia to move away so we can lay out a huge solar array. Ok, how about hydro? Well, not in this region - not geologically significant to make a huge impact. And all three have environmental concerns that are a nightmare to overcome.

Nuclear? Sure, that works. You wanna hear who's against it?

That leaves stuff like natural gas, coal and oil. Ooh. Can't have that.

Exactly WHAT primary source of energy will all this "alternative" rest upon? Unless you believe in sonoluminescence or cold fusion, we're stuck with variations of what we have mentioned.

What I can't get over is you're willing to say "no" to drilling while betting on door number 3. You don't have any idea what's back there.

I asked what your were driving mister hypocrite .....

have you run out and gotten your hybrid yet, like a good little socialist ....

Like your Messiah AL BORE told you to .......

While JP Morgan's mileage figures are a little high (When people talk about the mileage they get, they usually mean what they saw flash on the trip computer as they were driving on the highway downhill with a tailwind.), his dollar figures aren't too far off. The EPA combined mileage of a 2008 Prius (base price $21,500 US) is 46 MPG. A 4-cylinder 1.8-L Civic (base price $15,010 US) has an EPA combined rating of 29 MPG. With the current national gas price of $3.94/gallon, to pay back the $6490 difference, you would have to drive about 130,000 miles. At $8/gallon, the payback would occur at about 65,000 miles. Of course, that's assuming that you paid cash and are not counting the TT&L.

That being said, I prefer the Prius. However, I do not begrudge someone who runs the numbers and buys the Civic.

Hybrids are still not worth the premium tacked on by dealers ... hell you can get a mini that gets 40 mpg ....

my 14 yr old Saturn gets 30 ... and my commute is 30 min / 20 miles, part local roads, part Beltway ... it would not pay for me to get a Prius ... I have no car note .... why would I want one ... and having to run the motor to keep the AC Going in the summer ... is saving what exactly ...
