Hey everyone....it's time. Speak now or forever hold your peace!

There are currently two motorcycle bills pending in the Maryland Senate (helmets AND red light sensors).

There are two ATV bills pending in the Maryland Senate (helmet/eye protection AND training requirements/age limitations/machine size restrictions).

There are also two ATV bills pending in the Maryland House. They are duplicates of the two ATV bills pending in the Maryland Senate.

If this matters to you, and it should, you need to come to Annapolis on May 10th to show your support for the motorcycle bills and on May 3rd and May 10th for the ATV bills.

Here is additional information on the bills. Please read.

Thanks to all.

The ATV laws are needed. I am totally for both of them. There have been way too many accidents and deaths.

That's right, let's give more power to the nanny state.

Did you even read the laws they want to put in place? Wear a helmet...Big deal. Anyone under 18 has to take an ATV safety course...Another big deal. We are talking about the safety of our children here. Lord knows just because it's a law doesnt mean people will follow it anyway.

Yes, I did read it. A STATE MANDATED course by a STATE APPROVED instructor for an off road vehicle. Why bother legislating laws that in no way will be enforced? I have no problem with folks wearing or not wearing helmets. Once again, who is going to enforce it other than the parents?

You see what happens is the state says, "It's for the children, don't forget the children" and folks fall for it hook line and sinker. Before you ask, yes, I do have kids, I'm also a responsible adult and even more responsible parent and I do not need the state to tell me how to raise and teach my kids how to properly operate an atv.

:yeahthat: As far as I'm concerned if someone wants to ride without a helmet so be it. If they feel their melon isn't worth protecting then maybe it isn't. When it comes to kids it's the parents responsibility. Young children have no place on ATVs anyway. If the parent doesn't know better I'm sure the kids will be the same. Why should the state care?

Just to keep you up to date in case there is interest in attending, we have just been advised of the following changes:

1. The dates for the ATV bills have changed. Rather than two on March 3rd at 1:00 p.m. and two on March 10th at 1:00 p.m., they are all on March 10th at 1:00 p.m.

2. There is now a house version of the "red light sensor" bill. It is "HB877- Motorcycles at a Red Light". The hearing for this is also March 3rd at 1:00 p.m.

3. The two motorcycle-related senate bills (helmet law and red light sensor) are still on March 10th at 1:00.

Sorry about that but there are no certainties when the Government is involved. I will let you know if anything changes again.
