Didn't MC end up letting some African Go on a Sexual Assault case - even though he spoke and Understood English - off because the Courts could not find an approved translator ?

That wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. I can understand having translators in the event someone didn't understand English that well. But for any given case? I still don't agree with it. If they want to be here they need to understand ENGLISH. Not ingrish, anglish, englich, or any other variance.
Now the red bombs begin.

I'm trying to find it but I remember watching a hearing in FL that was debating the point of needing interpreters in their courts. It was getting heated and many Hispanics were there arguing for it. Then it dawned on me… the entire hearing was be held in...

English.

so, how do you feel about getting a sign language interpreter for someone who is deaf but can read lips? I know one is a physical disability and one is not but in some cases the person hasn't had the opportunity to learn English yet.

don't get me wrong, I am completely against illegal immigration but we're not just talking about illegal aliens here.

It's about whether you feel English is our official language and, in order to become a legal citizen, you must learn English. I promise you, go to any other non-English speaking country and you wont get an interpreter in their courts unless you hire one.

What an excellent idea. Perhaps the courts could offer, based on a financial affidavit, a way for one to hire a translator at a subsidized rate.

Maybe I'm just looking for anything to stop the Gov't from taking even more money that I don't have from my check

I do need an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters since I'm deaf, but I can not lip read very well in group of people. I only can lip read in one on one. However, some people are not easy to lip read for many reasons such as missing and yellow teeth, mustache/beard blocking lips, thin lip, talking too fast, talking too slow like "retarded", have an accent, have something in mouth, have something blocking thier mouth, etc. It is very very hard to lip read. It is not an easy task.

This is where we bring in ASL interpreters to help make communication go quickly and easy to save time from being wasted on repeating yourself over and over until the deaf person can understand you.

English is my first language and then ASL.

Or perhaps it would be a better investment to educate these folks in English.
