Anyone have any favorite campgrounds in the area? I've always liked the state parks in the western part of Maryland. Especially Deep Creek & Rocky Gap. I take a boat with me when I camp, so having a lake close by is a bonus.

Solomons Rec Center is a surprisingly nice campground. Lots of stuff to do, mellow crowd, gorgeous scenery, clean bath houses. Monello and I stayed there over the weekend, then came back and had dinner there tonight before our walk on the beach.

SHHH. Don't tell anyone. Then it'll get crowded and I'll lose my super secret beach spot :ohwell:

Actually, well before I moved here, my family and some extended family vactioned there for a week. I think we stayed in cabins bc my mother would never rough it in a tent, but I thought it was pretty nice for a 14 y/o. We'd spend the days on the beach or going various places in SoMD. My dad's a super frugal Navy guy, so at the time it felt like a real vacation. Been trying to convince my parents to come down and do it again, but this time bring the boat

It's the middle of summer and there are plenty of open spots left. This is the first summer I've spent here and I'm surprised at how low key it is. There sure is lots to do. I'm sure if the place was open to the general public it would be overrun but as it is, things are very quiet given the size of the place and the number of folks here, especially on the weekends.

I've noticed that it's been down a little bit this summer too. I drive through it every weekend (almost) to go sit on the beach and I remember it being much more packed last summer. Hopefully it's just a fluke bc I'd hate to see them shut it down.

I highly would recommend big bed in WVA. If you can fly fish you can score trout. Other than that, it is just a beautiful place. You can tube or kayak the stream. The pool at the end of the small falls is nice for dipping. About a 5 minute walk. Sit under the small falls for a nice cool off. Came very close to hitting a deer on my mountain bike while heading back to the family at the pool.
