Looking at a picture of my uncle's medals, poor quality and reflection from the shadow box. Infantry from Normandy to Bastogne. There are adornments on the ribbons of two.
On his European campaign medal are three stars for the seperate campaigns plus a fourth that is slightly larger but doesn't look like an hourglass. Any idea?
On his Bronze Star it looks like two "acorns" can't see clearly. If they're oak leaves does that mean he was awarded three times?

Is it possibly an Arrowhead? Which is authorized to be worn on the medal for those who participated in airborne or amphibious assault landings.

Yes, 3 times awarded.

Could be an arrowhead which makes sense since he was in D-Day. Still not sure about the oak leafs, they appear to have more dimension and round like an orb. The strange fact was that his kids were unaware of these awards till after his death.

Be neat to see them. Are they bronze, silver, one of each? Silver = 5 bronze

I'm gonna guess that it happens quite often, my brother and I had no idea of what our father earned until we opened the big envelope with all of his papers, metals and ribbons in the bag with his will. He wanted all of it with his ashes in the urn.
I did that Hospice thing on my father, I learned more than I wanted to know, with those 6 nights of listening to him.

My old man was on a tug in the Med. Caught some North Africa, there for Sicily, Anzio and southern France. He told us the harmless stories like the dropped off a crew to do some recon and was in Rome before the army or the time his boat hit a mine. He said after repairs none of the hatches seem to close right. Must of seen some action, his boat captain was made CO of the Consitution near the end of the war.
