Set to Announce Grant Recipients, Host Fireside Chat with Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr
Will Make Stops in Garrett, Allegany, and Washington Counties As Part of Ongoing Statewide Legacy Tour
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan will host the annual conference of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) at Rocky Gap Resort in Flintstone, Maryland from October 17-19, 2022.
“I look forward to hosting this year’s fast approaching ARC Annual Conference in scenic Western Maryland,” said Governor Hogan. “The State of Maryland is excited to welcome hundreds of conference participants and fellow governors from across Appalachia as we work together to advance economic growth and vitality of the region.”
Special events featuring Governor Hogan include:
- Monday, October 17: Governor Hogan will participate in a press announcement announcing recipients of nearly $47 million in POWER grants to 52 economic diversification projects in Appalachia’s coal-impacted communities. The governor will be joined by ARC Federal Co-Chair Gayle Manchin, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, and Frostburg State University President Dr. Ronald H. Nowaczyk. The announcement will be held at 12 p.m. at Frostburg State University and will be streamed live by the ARC via Zoom.
- Tuesday, October 18: Governor Hogan will participate in a fireside chat with Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. The fireside chat will be held at 10:00 a.m. and will be streamed live on the ARC’s YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.
Additional Legacy Tour Stops:
In addition to hosting the conference, Governor Hogan will make a number of stops across the region as part of his ongoing legacy tour:
- Monday, October 17: The governor will make a transportation announcement in Grantsville, MD.
- Tuesday, October 18: The governor will make several stops in Hagerstown, MD to highlight administration projects and initiatives.
- Wednesday, October 19: The governor will make several stops in Frederick County to highlight administration projects and initiatives.
The theme of this year’s conference is “One Appalachia: Connection & Collaboration” to highlight how ARC’s 13 states and 423 counties are collaborating to bring each of its strategic investments to life.
