Medical Insurance

I have a question regarding insurance coverage. While I'm getting quotes they are asking if I would like to add medical insurance. What exactly does this cover? They don't ask this when you insure a car so I am wondering what the difference is. Do you need it if you already have health insurance provided through your employer?

Also if anyone feels like sharing, what does everyone have set for their damage limits? I want to be covered but I also dont want to go overboard as I'm not sure a bike can cause 500,000 dollars of damage in a accident.

Thanks for any responses!

Normally PIP (personal injury protection) is not offered on most motorcycle policies because face it if you get in an accident 90% of the time you will be injured in some way. However when you are involved in an auto accident your regular medical insurance does not kick in until your pip has been exhausted. Some medical insurances will hassle w/ you if you dont have pip on your auto/motorcycle policy and jerk you around and not pay certain things etc.

The medical payments are for you and any other party involved in the accident. If you cause an accident the other party involved is eligible to receive the 2500 medical payments as well.

That all looks really good...except for the medical payments. There are 3 different amounts in the state of MD 2500, 5000, and 10,000. I would up it to 10,000. Because that covers your medical, prescriptions, and time out of work (lost wages).

No need, health ins and disability cover it. If I was in the habit of giving rides to people who aren't insured I would up it.
