I'll stay put like all previous hurricanes on the island. Those mobile Red Cross kitchens put out some tasty food and I like not having to do any cooking.

My biggest fear is not whether Earl will hit Maryland--it's that the cleanup effort will be led by Marty.

couldn't be any worse than '03 or '06. The state and FEMA both did nothing on the island; the residents cleaned up most of it and the hard-working fellers from Pike (alabama) rolled in to take care of the rest.

I'm just astounded by the amount of people who seem to think a 600 mile wide major hurricane can pass by 200 miles of the coast with NO effect on coastal areas.

Heck all I've said is basically 'better safe than sorry' anyway. Am I wrong? Do hurricanes NOT regularly do unpredicted stuff? Is it not pretty likely we'll get TS force winds at a minimum?

That IS what the NHC is saying.

That's being a drama queen?

Personally I think making a fuss because I'd like to see everyone have their bases covered just in case, is being a drama queen.

Hi all you drama queens!!
We're not talking about a 600 mile wide hurricane. As NOAA said at 2pm, hurricane force winds extend 70 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend up to 200 miles from the center. So if Earl comes to within 200 miles of SoMD, we might see winds of 39-48mph which we aleady experince several time a year during regular storms.

Did you bother to check the link? There is a decent chance we could get TS wind.

And you'll be out there grilling and picnicking in the middle of it I suppose, even if it's just 30-45 MPH....

No effect and all.
