Wait - that's wrong? I had lots of boxes to burn this morning.
If there is a burn barrel etiquette, can someone please post here. What holidays are appropriate to burn or not? Hours? Materials?
Boxes are one thing, smoldering plastics is entirely different. Generally, in neighborhoods, people burn after 4pm to be considerate to their neighbors. If you don't have neighbors so close that you can hear what's going on inside their household most days, burn the mother ****er down anytime you like.
I'm sorry if I touched a nerve, but this same neighbor also has a dozen outside cats that use my boat covers as hammocks and leave their ****ing fur all over them. Do you have feral cats, too? Maybe I should rant someplace else. Merry Christmas!

LOL it’s all good. I try to be cognizant of which way the wind is blowing before I light the fire, but it seems many times that wind will change direction as soon as that fire gets going good. But I only burn paper/cardboard, no plastic or shingles or tires, at least not at my house - usually do that at the farm where the neighbors are a quarter to half mile away.
And I don’t have any feral cats.
