Metrocast DVR - problem

For those of you with DVR's on Metrocast --

Let's say you are going to record two shows at the same time - and the channel ISN'T on one of the channels just before they come on.

It gives you a warning that you might want to change the channel, because a recording is coming up -

The options are - change the channel or cancel the recording -

And CANCEL IS THE DEFAULT SETTING. That is, if it comes on when you're not there, you're going to lose one of your recordings! How stupid.
I can't find a setting that makes it change as the default setting. It drives me crazy. Almost every other night, the kids are watching some other channel and when the warning comes on - they ignore it.

Any ideas?

From what I can figure out is that the DVR has only two tuners in it, so you can record two shows at the same time but you have to be watching one of them also (or not watching anything).

Do you know if both shows recorded while watching a third? I would be a bit surprised by that, that would mean there were three tuners in the DVR.

You can't - because it's actually recording a show while you watch it - but you CAN watch a recording while two shows record.
This also is true of On Demand stuff too.

It just drives me crazy that if this situation happens - the default is not to switch. Why would I go through all the trouble of setting up the recordings, if I would ruin the whole thing by making the mistake of not having it on the right channel beforehand?
