Metrocast 'Upgrade'

Some time next month, Metrocast will require any TV hooked up in your house to have some kind of decrypting device for their signal - you won't be able to just connect your Smart TV to it.

What I don't know is - will the ones I already have, that have the little box connected - will I have to *replace* those, as well?

Oh and by the way - I can no longer seem to find a page on Metrocast that spells out their costs for services. Seems the only way I can find anything is set up an installation and that's pointless obviously.

I understood their flyer to read that if you have devices issued by Metrocast, including that little ones, then your are already set up to handle the new encryption. As for prices, each bill I've received sends out itemized pricing. We have one big HD box w/DVR, one standard big box, and 4 little converters... the first two are free for some period of time any after the first two cost a small rental fee each month. What price are you looking for?

Yeah, but they used to have this "build your own" web page. It's not so much that they break out the costs, but the page used to give you all the options.

I want to DOWN grade our situation. I know it seems odd that in light of a minor increase, but frankly, I'm sick of how much I pay anymore, and this just seems to be a lame way to grab even more money.

In the past, I'd check it to see how much it would cost to just BUY our own DVRs and pay for the DVR service, but I found it wouldn't make much difference.

We already have the whole house DVR with three DVRs, and two more boxes after that. Plus two more TV's that are smart tvs and are just doing their own decryption.

I don't want to pay for more boxes - I have at least two tv's that are ripe for streaming. They're heavily used by the kids, who seriously don't care if they have live TV or not. At least, not yet.

We have additional TVs that we use just for streaming and don't use them for any Metrocast channels.
