Metrocast vs Verizon DSL

Since Verizon DSL wasn't available a few years back, I got Metrocast Internet only service. After awhile, it is not down too much.
Now Verizon has DSL available, but not FIOS. A bit cheaper, but is it better then Metrocast? Worth changing?

Worry I have is if Comcast takes over Metrocast and starts charging extra for Internet only, use DirecTV.

I have DSL, while it's not as fast as cable, it is more reliable. I used cable internet while visiting my sister in Tennessee and I saw no real difference in speed if you ask me. I am just as happy with my 3M performance. This is all your call though. FIOS is a long way off for us.

I have Verizon DSL along with phone service and is reasonable. The internet part is fast, when working properly. Part of the problem could be me or computer. My oldest daugther had nothing but trouble with hers.I have Comcast for cable and hope verizon Fios gets here soon. Comcast has been a headache , customer service sucks.!!
And I also have a daughter that has Direct tv and loves it she does"nt have all the movie channels ...bill around $50 month. The thing I find is Verizon has good Tech. Support & customer service. It"s one of those things that what is good for one might not be for another....good luck!

No, it is not worth it. Cable speed is alot quicker than DSL. My in laws have FIOS, and it is slower than Metrocast Internet.

FIOS have alot of "lag" to connect internet and when you tried to download YouTube video, it froze up. I never have that problem with Metrocast Internet. I would stick with Metrocast.

I can't really complain about Verizon DSL; it's going on 2 years that I've been using it, the next renewal is coming up in Sept. I can't complain about the speed of data tranfser either.

Sure, they advertise 3.0megs, but the highest I ever saw during a speed test was 2.8megs, usually around 2.6 or a bit higher is what I get.

When I have had an issue with connectivity, most of the time it has been with an incoming server being dropped, it seems. When I get them on the phone, they have solved my problems very quickly, telling me what info is needed, and where to insert the correct data that will fix the error. :yay:

Is it the quickest?

No, but before I signed on with them, I had Earthlink dial-up! Ever watch a snail crawl across a rock? :lmao:

I have verizon DSL in the flavor of 1.5meg service (fastest I can get) Ive never had a problem with it and I get all of my 1.5meg service. I had Metrocast at the other house and it was about the same speed but it was more expensive.

I don't know where you got your info but nothing is faster than fiber optic service (FIOS). The problem with some folks is that their computer, router (or other equipment) is slow and they think it's their ISP provider. DSL is fast, cable is much faster but FIOS is much faster than cable anyday by virtue of it's basic function; Light energy is faster than any radio frequencies (RF) through wires (phone lines or coaxial cable). Many prefer DSL to cable because of the price difference. Seriously check out the download speeds for your particular area and ISP and you'll see what I'm saying.

It was my in law's up in Indiana.

I think thier wireless router isn't working correctly, but I would never know that since I never used thier desktop computer except the laptops that was lying around for everybody to use.

Seems like both are good and bad. I get 6+MB with Metrocast, Verizon advertised 3.0. Only worry is that Metrocast changes hands and makes a big price increase. Maybe it is best to wait.
Have gotten used to fast downloads of files, especially podcasts of Rush.

Sure you will. You're comparing Metrocast (cable) with Verizon (DSL). It's not the company, it's the type of service. You pay for speed so, if money is no object, then go with cable. I waited for DSL because I didn't want to pay the higher price of cable.
There's one thing for certain, however. Cable companies will be bought & sold occasionally and rates will only go up significantly.

Interestingly, Metrocast is running slow the past hour, maybe they monitor the website.
I wouldn't mind the slower speed if I had not been spoiled by the faster cable internet. Watching streaming video is great for instance.

What do you really use the Internet for? If it's just e-mail and browsing the web, it really doesn't matter which one you use. The only difference is price if you aren't using a lot of bandwidth.

But who can afford it $$$$$? Not your average residential user!

FiOS 20/20 symmetrical or 50/20 is plenty for now. And very much affordable.

It's still worth every penny though. It always good to know that your network card is the bottleneck of your internet connection. lol
