Don't know what this dude was thinking, but in my humble opinion Mexico is a hot LZ all the way around, i would have never tried this in this day and age.
Last transmission in red, dangerous area waiting for Govt. escorts, which down there in my humble opinion may not be to reliable. Love the free spirit, however, i would never do this.

New York man missing in Mexico during motorcycle trip

A 32-year-old New York man has been missing for almost two weeks while on a motorcycle trip through Latin America.

According to the New York Daily News, Harry Devert, from Pelham, has not been heard from since Jan. 25 while riding his motorcycle through Mexico.

"Just got an hour and a half long escort out of some area it was too dangerous for me to be," he told his girlfriend, Sarah Schiear, through WhatsApp. "Gonna get back on the road soon. Apparently there's another military escort waiting for me in some other town... I'm running way late because of the crazy military stuff..."

Bunch of my offroading friends went to Mexico to help a Baja 1000 Class 3 team with all the race chores.

Said it was hell on earth as far as lawlessness; even stuff that was locked and guarded got stolen anyway.

That's total bull####!

When the local cops are robbing you, that is NOT lawlessness!

Everyone I know who has had trouble down there was with the cops.

FB hard to navigate, looks like a SPOT locator might have helped pin down where he went off the grid......if Mexico can be said to have a grid.

.

When a group of folks from another Class 3 team had to leave early because of some kind of family emergency back in the states, they were traveling at night, in a big SUV (Ford Expedition I believe) and alone. They got kidnapped and held for about 12 hours by a bunch of bandits with rifles. I don't recall any more how they bought their way out..but they did.

Those stories and others (and a back broken in a different off road race about the same time) all combined to make me give up my lifelong dream of racing the Baja 1000. Already had a team assembled....a build started. Sucked.

Sorry LG, but I have to throw the bull flag on this.

I have been there many times since the late 80's, and it is always very, very risky, both cops and the locals that all they see is gringos. And that is near the border with the US. More south, you're on your own, essentially.

The law (ha ha), and the locals.

I would not recommend anybody going there. Lawless is their nation.

You know what I hate? I hate when people don't get my jokes. Hate it.
