Micheal Moore

Strung Out
I happened to catch a July 1 2004 Charlie Rose show and his guest was none other than the big man himself. Having nothing better to do and truly being curious as to, metaphorically speaking, what is up Moores ass, I watched for awhile.

Observations:

He is a very bright guy with very stong, but emotionally based, opinions.

He doesn't seem to know anything about American civics, being one of the many who believe, strongly, that the popular vote in Presidential elections is how we decide the winner.

He is 'not a Democrat' but an 'independant' who voted for Clinton in '92 and Nader in '96 and '00 who sees his politics as strategic in order to get Democrats elected President. Very independant in deed.

To wit, it is Okie dokie for him, as a New York resident to vote for who he wants because, in strongly Dem New York where he resides, it doesn't matter, but if you are in a battleground state you are not suppossed to do anything, like, oh, vote for who you want; that may lead to a GOP win.

So, he has no convictions here.

He believes that Republicans are the entrenched, ostensibly closed minded, party with some 45% who will NEVER vote for a Democrat.

He states ALL his facts are 100% correct in his movies.

He see's the nation as run by Wolfowitz, Pearl, Rummsfeld et al and Bush as merely a useful idiot, a charming dufus.

Therefore, the 50,000,000 people who voted for him are...???

He see's the nation as divided 50/50/50; 50% GOP, 50% Dem and 50% non-participating and really, at the end of the day, that's his goal, to get those people participating. So, his math skills are also weak.

And, finally, he thinks that Kerry can't move to the right on issues because it will cost him on the left. He said "Kerry needs to tend to the left wing of the Democratic party because we know where we stand."

Charlie never got back to the whole 'I'm an Independant" thing.

In summary, I saw a guy who know's what he know's about the grand world controlling Bush family conspiracies and our puppet President, a clever but dumb guy who, like most Bush haters, has not read a single word of the Iraq War Resolution and, under any circumstances, will not allow let facts get in the way of what he...knows.

I'm reminded of that Ronald Reagan quote:

"The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so."

My family and I watched "Bowling for Columbine" last night and based on his films, I have come to the conclusion that they really are quite valuable in a cinematic sense (and for die-hard liberals, a rhetorical sense). What I think is the strongest aspect of his films is that he is capable of making viewers cry and laugh in the same movie.

 Well, you see Christy, Monty Python's comedic movies are not forwarded as Documentarys. You pretty much know what you are going to get with them.

Whereas, Michael Moore's films are to be taken as gospel.
