If I get one of these MIFI things, do I then have to subscribe to a monthly service say with Verizon in order for it to work? TY

Yes. I got one when I upgraded my phone. Basically, it is on my Share Everything plan. I don't use it often, but it's nice to have if we go on vacation and happen to be in an area with no WiFi. As long as I have cell service, I can hook up through it. The Verizon rep said it was better than using your phone as a hot spot.

Sounds like I need to go into a Verizon store and actually talk to someone. Why don't you use it at your home? I mostly would want it so when I go to my mothers I can get a connection but I don't know if its worth $50 a month. I already pay 43.00 for metrocast at my home. If I could cancel that then MIFI would be worth it I suppose.

We got it mainly for travel. At home, our cable, internet, and phone are all tied into one service. We're under contract for a while longer on that bundle. Then, I may check into it. The thing is, the cable internet is unlimited. Our phone Share Everything program is set up for a limited amount.
