The Veterans Suicide Study Act would require the Department of Veterans Affairs to report to Congress within 180 days the number of veterans who have committed suicide since January 1, 1997.

How does a report prevent suicide?

The data itself would be seriously flawed anyway. VA does not have access to data on veterans who are not eligible for VA care. Their data could only consist of those who are in the system for physical or mental problems, not all veterans.
