Military's porn ban questioned

Ubi bene ibi patria
"WASHINGTON — Ten years after Congress banned sales of sexually explicit material on military bases, the Pentagon is under fire for continuing to sell adult fare, such as Penthouse and Playmates In Bed, that it doesn't consider explicit enough to pull from its stores.

Dozens of religious and anti-pornography groups have complained to Congress and Defense Secretary Robert Gates that a Pentagon board set up to review magazines and films is allowing sales of material that Congress intended to ban.

"They're saying 'we're not selling stuff that's sexually explicit' … and we say it's pornography," says Donald Wildmon, head of the American Family Association, a Christian anti-pornography group. A letter-writing campaign launched Friday by opponents of the policy aims to convince Congress to "get the Pentagon to obey the law," he adds."

My guess is if Donald Wildman saw Debbie does Dallas he would have a heart attack and die. Does he know that the military issued rubbers in the 2nd. World War?

Give the boys a break ,none of them will go blind looking at Playboy.

Reminds me of Dr. Strangelove...

Major T. J. "King" Kong: Survival kit contents check. In them you'll find: one forty-five caliber automatic; two boxes of ammunition; four days' concentrated emergency rations; one drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills; one miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible; one hundred dollars in rubles; one hundred dollars in gold; nine packs of chewing gum; one issue of prophylactics; three lipsticks; three pair of nylon stockings. Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff.

And had quite a few health films about prophylaxis? aka taking morning after antibiotics. I remember seeing a documentary about WW2 instructional films where the guy who played Dr McCoy on Star Trek had played a pilot who passed out in mid flight from VD.:killingme

Apparently it's morally wrong to be sexually aroused by a magazine, yet perfectly acceptable to drop cluster bombs that children might find.

That's right, wear your patriotism on your sleeve and then send The Troops to serve in dry countries with no girlie mags. They are just asking for mutiny in Kuwait.

Not that I believe in the ban, but that's not the purpose. The military aims to maintain a disciplined force. These sorts of things, in the minds of the Pentagon, create distractions that could carry over into the battlefield, especially when men and women could be fighting along side each other. The theory is if the guy pulling the lever to drop the cluster bombs is sitting next to a hot woman and is distracted because he has pornographic images running through his head he may be inclined to miss the target and hit innocent children on the ground.
