Million dollar view!

Matthew 7:24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

When I was growing up.... and I read this verse.... I thought of Sandbridge Virginia. The houses are built on a sand spit.... and every year the homeowners would try to get Virginia to allow them to get insurance.... and every year... Virginia would tell them... "nope... you live on the sand with all those views.... and when you get blown away.... well think of all those beautiful views."

A decade ago.... a new thought began to pop up when I read these verses. Calvert Cliffs...... the Cliffs are falling into the bay. There are homes sitting on the cliffs in CRE.... and they have a beautiful view..... but they are in danger of falling into the bay themselves. Those homeowners went to the property owners association in CRE and to the State of Maryland. The State of Maryland allowed them to do some mitigation.... but not much because there's a beetle that lives in the cliffs and of course.... it's endangered. The POA at CRE ..... well we told them "you built your house on sand".

Remember.... Matthew was a tax collector and he knew the value of property.

Jesus was teaching this on the side of a hill. There were hundreds, maybe thousands, of people listening to Him teach. Whenever Herod spoke or Herodias went on a shopping spree with her daughter Salome.... hundreds, maybe thousands, of people saw them and knew who they were. That's understandable.... because they held "authority". Jesus didn't have a cart to keep His feet from hurting.... He didn't have Herod's podium. Jesus just walked around talking to people and making them feel better.

I wonder.... are any of the speeches Herod gave..... in any books anywhere like the teachings of Jesus or the Prophets?

Herod built his house on sand..... poor guy.... Herodias backed the wrong horse.... she should have let John baptize her..... but she backed Herod's lust for that million dollar view.
