Miniature Dacshunds

Jack Russells RULE!
Good afternoon,

Does anyone know of a miniature dachshund (sp?) breeder, or where one can acquire one? Doesn't have to be purebred, maybe beagle/mini dachshund mix.

Thank you,

Looking for Miniature Dachshunds

My breeder is wonderful. Lives in Hagerstown (about 1.5 hours away). Due to have two litters of pups in next couple of months. I have three doxies of my own (plus two other large dogs). Also belong to a Dachshund Meet-Up Group whose members are comprised of several people working in Dachshund Rescue. We are having a meet-up this Sunday in Fairfax, VA and I'd be happy to put out the word that you are looking for a dachshund. Any particular color, age, etc.

I would love to find a mail chi-weenie or mini-dacshund pup. My older dog isn't in the best of health and I'd like to find a little brother for the younger one to get used to and love. If anyone hears of such a tiny pup (~$500), can you please send a private message. I appreciate it.

You want someone to send you a Chi-weenie in the mail?

P.S. Go to the damn pound and get yourself a mutt. $500 damn dollars for a mutt is ridiculous.

Yes, by all means support the local puppy mills and back yard breeders and get yourself a mini dachshund puppy. Don't look at petfinder, don't check out Dachshund Rescue of North America, Inc. - Adopt a dog in need and save a life. Make sure you spend at least 500 bucks on a MUTT, chi-ween, doxie beagle or dachsador, because the ones at the shelter don't need your help. They're going to be put to sleep, not KILLED. Buy a puppy off the internet, because breeders always show their real dogs and facilities.

Don't get a senior dog, since they're just going to die anyway.

(I'm hoping that she'll follow the usual pattern of forumites and do exactly opposite of the advice offered. Dachshund rescue is so near and dear to my heart that it just kills me to see think of someone not rescuing, or at least getting one from the pound when there are so many. My last guy, Willard, was an owner turn in due to the owner going off to be a monk. Seriously. There are so many great dogs out there that need us to help because people have let them down. They buy them without doing the research, can't be bothered to train or exercise them and then dump them when they become inconvenient. Please be prepared for back problems, bad teeth and bossy personalities. If you do go to a breeder, make sure you see the parents and siblings and don't fall for the 'saving them from the breeder and I couldn't leave him there' because they still walk away with your money, and you end up with a sickly dog and huge vet bills. The rescues I'm familiar with charge around 300 bucks for a puppy, and they'll be fixed and vetted. Sure, you have to jump through hoops to get approved, but it's worth it to have the support group for your dog, your new family member. Give them a forever home.)

There was a cute chi/yorkie at a DC shelter from the TN puppy mill raid. Check out adopting that one. They had her/him on TV yesterday morning, real cutie...

I have to agree with Hello6 but want to add that due to the economy, many dogs are sitting longer in shelters around the U.S. There has also been an increase in puppy mill raids because simply put, people don't have or don't want to spend the money to purchase a pet and purchased pets are not moving.

Pets are a life long commitment and if a person isn't in for the long haul, don't adopt because unexpected expenses due come up and boy do they; I have spent more in pet bills in the past month, close to $1200 between 3 animals, than I have spent in the past 3 years but things happen. I have 5 total pets, 2 dogs, 3 cats and all but 1 were rescues, 2 came with no vet care and 1 needed follow up vet care. To get 1 of my cats fixed, all shots, using Lucky Ones to spay, I spent over $380 so that makes the $85-$300 adoption fee most local shelters charge a good deal and you helped move a spot for another pet waiting to be homed.

Please consider adoption. :yay:
