 I read 6pm.

Either way, a 5 year old should not be out unsupervised at any time of day.
You're right, I don't have my glasses on

I could see letting her go next door or a couple doors down, if the friend's parents knew she was coming, but TWO BLOCKS??

Even in a "safe" neighborhood, even if every neighbor between the two houses was known and trusted and was alerted to watch out for the girl as she went by, she would have to cross the street. I don't know that I would rely on a 5 yo's judgement about that

Or just stand outside and watch to make sure she makes it to the house two doors away. No parent should be "to busy" to not watch out for their child.

Not only are the parent's morons, but they are lucky morons. Lucky in the fact that they found the girl alive.

I have a hard time letting my boys out of my sight. I'm a bit over cautious at times, I will admit that.

I agree for a couple houses away, but this kid was going two blocks which would requre passing at LEAST 10 houses and I doubt they knew all those people and all their visitors, crossing at LEAST one street, maybe an alley too. What were they thinking letting her go by herself??

I hope they catch him and fry him. With that having been said, a real PARENT would not have been this careless and irresponsible with regard to the safety of their child. It would have taken this woman no more than five minutes to ensure that her child arrived safely at the friend's house. Now this poor child will spend a lifetime having to deal with whatever this perverted monster did to her. :burning:

kinda like expecting them to be able to put sunblock on. :ohwell:

 j/k

It's sad when I ride into work each morning ... I see all these little kids ... some that can be no older than kindergarten age ... walkin' themselves or with another same-age kid to school ... and these are NOT safe 'hoods, if you catch my drift. :banghead: We'll see the parents on tv some day ... "I don't know what could have happened to him? He walks himself to school every day just like all the other 5 year olds do." :duh:

You know there are a lot of kids who have to walk to school a couple blocks. Especially in cities. But generally, there are sidewalks, other kids around, crossing guards etc. There's plenty of people around who would notice a kid being picked up in a car. But that same kid making that same walk at 6 in the evening

I don't agree, but maybe the parents figured she was responsible enough to go to school "by herself" she should be able to go to a friend's house. To mom's credit, she did call to check on her in a fairly short amount of time. The article said they found the girl's scooter about a half hour after she left home.
