Missing Boater on the Potomac/Cobb Island (UPDATE BODY RECOVERED)

Dakota

~~~~~~~
Boat was found on Westmoreland shore late last night and this morning, they are asking those in the Cobb Island area that want to help with the search, to search between bouy 13 to the nice bridge and into the mouth of the Wicomico. If you live on the water in these areas, can you walk your line - see if you see anything.
The Coast Guard, DNR, and fire rescue are out now.
From US National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington
Several Coastal Flood Warnings have been issued along the Chesapeake Bay and Tidal Potomac River. Water levels are already on the rise and will only rise more throughout the day today and into Friday. Tidal inundation levels of 2-4 feet are expected in low-lying coastal areas.
*Bad storms are expected Friday that will make a search extremely difficult - perhaps non existent - hope they find him today. :(
When did the first reports go out? We had a ton of low and slow helo traffic yesterday, late afternoon. The last helo I heard was around 2100 last night and it was either a MSP or USCG Dauphin.
MSP's Trooper 7 was up and searching. I don't know the exact time they came to the conclusion he was missing but a few hours prior to that....
No new news at this time.
Only this; Per the commanding officer specific areas for private vessels focus on shore lines north and south of Cobb island. Md and Va please stay clear of any fire and rescue boats let them have room to work
:(
Here on the beautiful Gulf coast we see a ton of dipshits who disregard warnings and hop right on into roiling storm churned waters, either swimming or boating. It rarely ends well. I'll bet we get two a week during tourist season.
Bann and I got a front row seat for the dipshit show when she was here.
Oh I know many disregard warnings and I don't feel sorry for those that do when it doesn't end well. There were no warnings until today and those warnings are due to tomorrow's storm.
The person missing in this situation is an experience crabber by profession. I didn't want to mention his name prior but now that the Bay Net has put it out there - here it is. He is well known - well liked - not known to be a risky person like that.
I was just making a general comment. I have no idea about the person in OP.
I know several posters here live on the water - please keep your eyes open.
If today turns up nothing, the conditions are only going to get worse as the evening approaches.
Right and I understood that.... Right now my anxiety is high about this situation, I am not close friends, more like acquaintances, with the Hands" family but one of my close friends is very close to them. She was inconsolable last night and there are many of my friends out searching today. What I do know about the Hands' family is they are really good people.
I lost a friend some years back who went out kayaking alone, which was odd for this person and the water was cold - freezing cold. I still to this day cannot believe he did that. The conditions were not good and they think he rolled that kayak and ended up being found dead. He was very experienced but even so, freak accidents happen. I will never think of him and not think he shouldn't have gone out on the water.
And then, there was this;
Despite a well-forecast weather front with 55 mph gale force winds, a pleasure boat participating in a rockfish tournament got caught in the high winds sweeping across the region and flipped, killing two men and injuring one, leaving one man still missing. The Coast Guard reports helicopters and rescue boats were searching Sunday for one man south of White Point Beach on the lower Potomac River.
UPDATE – Body of missing fisherman Roger Grissom Sr. found on Virginia Eastern Shore – THE CHESAPEAKE TODAY (the-chesapeake.com) I knew all those men and either current or former spouses. Perhaps the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association should have cancelled the event. :ohwell:
And as for those idiots that want to ride the waves in crappy conditions like what we have forecasted for tomorrow, they deserve what they get -mean but they do!
I just hope this person is found today. Waiting 83 days to find Roger was horrible for his loved ones and family...
Fox News did a report and somebody uploaded it to Youtube.
Doug Hands - YouTube
He is still missing and it was mentioned, he has been a long time foster parent and adopted one of his fosters. I did know that but as to the times I was asked about in this thread and didn't know earlier, his wife reported him missing about 5 p.m. the report says.
They looked until 10 or so last night only finding the boat. Today's search, nothing. Very sad.
