Missing Cat Question

One of my cats(all stay in and are spayed) got out of the basement from a little tear in the screen. Tuesday she was seen twice by neighbor not knowing she was mine and missing. Wed night she was seen eating cat food on another neighbors step, same thing, didnt know she was mine. So we put up huge poster board signs, also stating a reward. So this kind woman and her child was looking for her this evening but she wouldnt come to them and she was like four houses down from ours. I just got a cast off my foot from having a broken ankle but I have been hopping along hoping I good bring her home. What I was wondering do you all think maybe I should get one of those safe traps and put a couple around and maybe catch her that way. I will probably catch many other things also. I just to bring her home. The Humane Society charges 50.00 for one cage which I think is a little steep. Then you get your money back when you bring back in so many days. So would apprecitate any advice on getting her home. Thanks

I think she knows where she lives and she'll come home. I worry about my cats because we have Cayotes here and don't want them eaten, but in MD there isn't really that much to worry about unless you live near a really busy street.

You did not say WHERE the cat is located, not posted a photo...2 MUST do once cat is on the loose.

Several groups around SOMD will help you trap....and not charge you for the time and effort.

Get 2-3 traps, bait with Kentucky fried chicken and wait....a hungry cat is a trapable cat.
Tell neighbors to take in food and NOT feed her!
Dont wait for HER to come to you. Go and trap her now!

If she's eating on other people's steps I would just find a can of cat food and set it out then watch it closely, if you normally give them can food make a big production of opening the can if she hears it she may come close. The traps will work, but as you said you may end up catching someone else instead. If she was always an indoor cat she is probably just scared. They can travel, but most of the time they stay pretty close to home, she probably comes back and sniffs around without you realizing.
