Missing Cat

I am not sure how to write this post but, I will start by saying that my name is Lori. On September 27 (Early Saturday morning - like 2 am) one of our cats escaped from our townhouse, it was late Friday night/early Saturday morning. Our cat was last seen at the townhouse in Pickett’s Harbor Court in Cedar Cove by Gate 3 of PAX NAS. At the same time, we have been moving to a new house; Lexington Park to Piney Point.

There is a little story behind these two cats and it means a lot to me. My grandmother had these two cats; Muffie and Jeffie, both sister and brother. Well when my grandma passed away she gave them to a good friend of hers. Well her good friend had them for a couple years and for medical issues she had to give them up. She asked me if she would like to have the two cats and quick as anything I was on my way up to Connecticut to pick up Muffie and Jeffie.

Since the disappearance of Jeffie, we have posted fliers around the neighborhood asking for assistance in searching for him. He has been an indoor cat for his entire life. He is mostly light orange and dark orange with a white chest, there is also 3 white or very light orange rings on his tail and his paws/toes are also white. We estimate his age to be 7-8 years old, within "normal" weight range. He does have a bad left eye so his tears go down the side of his nose. His front paws have been declawed and he is neutered. I have attached a picture to this post.

Thanks for any help in this matter.

Lori

Good luck finding him! Make sure to set some Hav-a-Hart traps! My cat was lost for 5 weeks and I managed to trap him. Good luck!

Where are my pants?
I live in Cedar Cove and have seen your fliers up for the past few days...I really hope that the little guy wanders home.

One of our (indoor only) cats got outside a few years back and we tried leaving the back door cracked open all night with a bowl of food on the porch as "bait". It worked! When we woke up that morning there she was, curled up on the couch and no worse for wear. Maybe give that a shot?

Good luck finding Jeffie!

We have set out a trap - I don't know if it's the Hav-a-Hart trap, but it's environmentally safe and it shouldn't hurt him if/when he goes inside it.

I was kind of dumb about this whole trap thing too - I put canned wet food inside the trap and left the dry food outside the trap...last Wednesday night or Thursday, something came by and ate half the bowl of dry food. The trap went off, but nothing was inside it. So I'm not sure if it bumped the trap and made it go off or what. I was really bummed, but at the same time it has given me hope that it was him and that he'll come back again soon; especially since I found one of his hairs in the dry food bowl (but I'm not sure if it came off of his towel that I have laid over top of the trap or if it came off of him while eating the food).

How many traps did you have set out and where did you put it/them?

I'm glad to know that someone has seen my posters there! :yahoo:

The person I was living with before I moved out is still living there and they tried that last weekend, but I don't know for how long. Someone else had emailed me and suggested the same thing, but since we have completely moved out and he didn't have much of anything (he wasn't into toys), I wasn't sure how to "bait" him into getting him inside. I will suggest to my old housemate to put food by/inside the door and leave the door open all night; however, with it getting colder I'm not sure that they will want to do that - but it doesn't hurt to try. I'm at the point now where I'll do anything to get him back.

Yes, I've called Tri-County a few times since he's been missing and I've been up there two times. I plan to go up there tomorrow again.

As for all other animal shelters, SMAWL has been the most helpful in our search. Everyone else has just been telling us to go to Tri-County.

I put one trap at the neighbor's house....she always has catfood outside. I also caught a glimpse of the cat going near a house down the road. I put a trap there as well...but the one that caught him was at the neighbor's house.

Have you been seeing a black & white cat around in the neighborhood? Do you know of anyone that has a missing or outdoor black & white cat? My old housemate has caught it twice now and we can't figure out if it's someone's missing cat or if it is someone's outdoor cat. From what my old housemate has told me, the cat has been quite hungry...
