Modulating headlights

Does anyone have them? Ever have them? Can you turn the modulator off so it's not weird at night when you are alone on the road?

I need to get the things that hooks to your headlights to open my garage door.

I do have one of those. You can hook it up to your high beam, your turn signals or four ways.. I have mine hooked up to my four ways. Works like a champ Headlights on low beam, flash my four ways, up goes the door.

I installed the BIG DO, and also the part that connects to the door to bypass the rolling code on the newer door.

ALso am looking at a Headlight Modulator.. the one above looks like there is a lot of splicing to do, I'm looking at the Kisan, it's more plug and play. Unplug headlight, plug in modulator, done.. I've already go the Kisan running lights, and was a super easy install, another plug and play.

Never seen a garage door that opens with the headlights

This one looks like fun
The way mine is set you need two 12v leads to tap into.. When both leads go hot, it triggers the door opener. SO if you have it attached to your low/ hi beam, any time you trigger your high beam your garage door opener fires. I have mine set up to my four ways, and low beam. Problem is with the running lights installed, if I approach my house with the low beams on, my garage door closes (if BG got home before I did, and it's open).

I was trying to find a link to it, but I can't find it anywhere, it only cost about $25 for the part on the bike, and another $20 or so for the part in the garage.

Gotcha :yay: the lights operate the opener, not the door
It just hooks to your high/low beam in your headlight and sends a signal to another unit inside the garage which activates your opener.

Gentleman, I wanted to give you a courtesy heads up on these headlight pulse modules. Maryland State Police Automotive Enforcement Division, that oversees Marylands vehicle inspection program issued a ruling a long while back indicating these devices do not comply with Maryland law and are not approved devices. (see paragraph (c) 1 below)

http://mlis.state.md.us/cgi-win/web_statutes.exe?gtr&22-218

Now before you get all worked up and start flaming me for warning you all, I understand why you use them. I also believe that they make motorcycles much more visible and that Maryland should include these devices in the outlined exeptions. But, right now they are not, and it is a reason for the police to stop you when you have them in operation. This was just a heads up post so you don't get stopped for something you didn't know about.
There are not many patrol officers that will go out of their way to enforce this law. However, special enforcement teams targeting aggressive motorcycle operators will use all available laws on the books when working aggressive driving assignments. Just a heads up guys, nothing more :howdy:

By federal statute they are legal in all 50 states, including MD.. Puerto Rico and the American VIrgin Islands..

Federal regulations supercede all state laws and make headlight modulators legal in all 50 states. I print out the federal reg and carry it with my owner's manual, so I always have it in case I am stopped. Here it is (PDF file):

49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 571.108

Print it and carry it.

Show me the Federal statute. I would like to read it. As a general rule if it is a DOT aproved device, Motorcycle Mfg's would be installing them on Bikes from the factory. Just because it says that on the package doesn't make it so....

FMVSS 108 (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) (49 CFR Part 571.108 S7.9.4) allows motorcycle headlamp modulation systems in all 50 states provided they comply with the standards set forth in this section. Furthermore, Title 49 USC 30103(b1) (US Code) prohibits any state from forbidding a system that conforms to FMVSS 108. The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) is available at [3]. In the search enter 49 for Title, 571 for Part and 108 for Section. The paragraph that discusses motorcycle headlight modulation systems is S7.9.4. The United States Code (USC) is available at [4]. In the search enter 49USC30103

You guys post to fast for me, I can't type that fast.
That link gives me a starting point, but it doesn't tell me under what Federal Law it falls. The section numbers give me a starting point, I will figure it out. If it is a DOT section then Maryland needs to ammend there exceptions to include it.
