Mom sues school for hiding daughter's gender change after she later ran away and was sex-trafficked

A Virginia mom is alleging that a high school intentionally concealed her child’s gender transition in school as the kid faced a mental health crisis. The child later ran away from home, was kidnapped and sex-trafficked, according to a lawsuit filed last Tuesday.

I am not a parent and chose to never bring an unwanted child into this world. I have never regretted my choice (though it might be fun to have grandchildren )
What I don't understand is how little parents communicate with their children. Do they not talk, ask questions, be involved in their lives?
It is so easy to blame someone else like teachers when your kid is fu@ked up but how did they not know??
Recently, on the news it was reported that most third graders cannot read and write (or print since cursive is no longer taught or learned) I guess I was blessed that I was read a book to every night when I was a child and was taught to read and write by my Mother and siblings by the time I went into kindergarden! All the children in my family and their children etc were read to, played boards games with, parents sat down with coloring books and crayons etc. It makes me sad when I go out to a restaurant and see everyone on their phones -ignoring the kids.
I am sad for society in so many ways.
