Monitor not working

OK, I'm not sure if I posted this before... but last time I had to rework my connection via cable modem to router via ethernet (after installing ethernet ports) my monitor blacked out... I could have sworn in the hours and hours of trying to get it back running again, there was some keystroke combination I did (no not cntrl, alt, delete ) that made it come back on. I read somewhere that its not a completely uncommon problem when installing routher software (or was it ethernet port?)... eitherway, does anyone know what the keystroke combination is for a Sony Monitor? A friend of mind is having the exact same problem, she installed everything and her monitor blacked out... any suggestions

she's done that and see's a green light, just nothing showing up on the monitor

he's wondering if rebooting fixes the issues, if so, it's probably a power save option in the Operating System.

no, none of this... its a home pc (no help desk) its an older computer, same thing that happened to mine after I installed HARDWARE and then put the case back together... a bunch of clicking as would happen when you turn it on... and then no monitor - I think its a bug of sorts and there's a way to bypass it if I recall from the reading I followed up on.
I think I hit escape about 150 times or something in order to get mine back on and running. No biggie. I think I'll just say I don't rememmber how I fixed it, I had the same issue about a year ago. Just wondering if y'all have had the same "issue" Thanks! :huggy:

Usually "undoing" what you did that made it stop working is a good starting point. :yay:

Her monitor problem is probably caused from some completely different reason than yours. Have her plug the monitor into another computer if possible to see if it works.

During a hard restart (power off and then back on) do you get any video at all before the OS loads or does the monitor stay black the whole time? Check the monitor cable and make sure it is seated in the port at the back of your PC.

I'll pass that info along. When it happened to me, I received no OS load information... nothing, now that I think about it further, i had to hold the monitor button in the on position because it was turnign itself OFF when the computer woudl start... I'd hold it in the on position, then turn the computer on and off at the same time... about 10 times later, it finally came back on... I think that's what happend.

Does the monitor have its own power cord of is it pulling power from the computer itself, some of the older systems the monitors plug into the PSU on the PC instead of is own plug, if this is the case its possible the new hardware if internal is pulling enough power from the PSU that the monitor isnt getting enough,

It does seem strange though, ive never heard of a monitor needing a set key command to turn on / off after hardware install, does the system have its on GFX card or is it an onboard GFX card?????
