While the world is seeing some cases among that group, anyone can get monkeypox through close contact with an infected person, said Andy Seale, an adviser to the World Health Organization’s Global HIV, Hepatitis and STIs programs.“It seems clear that this is linked to close contact. This could be through social contact, possibly through sexual contact, which of course is close contact (but) we’re still in the early days of this outbreak so there’s a lot we’re still learning,” said Seale during a virtual question-and-answer event.“While we’re seeing some cases among men who have sex with men, this is not a gay disease as some people on social media have attempted to label it. Anybody can contract monkeypox through close contact.”The world also needs to know monkeypox is not a sexually-transmitted infection, Seale added.“You can get a cough or cold through sexual contact, but that doesn’t mean it’s a sexually-transmitted disease. Typically, you need an exchange of vaginal fluids or semen that has an element of contagion to it to transmit the disease,” he said.“The difference is that a sexually-transmitted infection is caused by sexual intercourse, anal intercourse, vaginal intercourse, or oral sex.”
They can't do that because they're still trying to conceal the fact that it's mostly gay men getting and passing it on.
'Dramatic spike in monkeypox cases leads to CDC launching new emergency center with US infections now at 306'; do everything but tell the Gay & bisexual community to abstain from contact for few weeks
I think CDC and WHO and NIH are deliberately driving the spread and expansion out of the Gay community into the low risk heterosexual community. I think 100%. It is either these people in CDC are the most inept egg heads ever or malfeasant. You chose.
Why can’t they just tell the Gay high risk community to have no sex or physical or intimate contact, skin to skin for a few weeks? a global message….why? Low risk populations and children, and I might add millions already immune compromised by COVID shots, are subject to risk because of political crap from CDC? This is insane!
I think the window for getting control of this and containing it probably has closed, and if it hasn’t closed, it’s certainly starting to close. 11,000 cases across the world right now. 1,800 cases, as you said, in the US. We’re probably detecting just a fraction of the actual cases because we have a very, we had for a long time a very narrow case definition on who got tested. And by and large, we’re looking in the community of men who have sex with men and STD clinics. … while it’s not going to explode, because it’s harder for this virus to spread, it’s probably going to be persistent, you’ll-you’ll have this as a sort of a fact of life, maybe spreading as a sexually transmitted disease, but also breaking out of those settings.
There, fixed it for us.
Comparisons to the early response to HIV/AIDS, which was marked by stigma and early failures, are hard to ignore.
“We, the American people, are fearful that the homosexual's history of practicing sodomy and not taking the necessary action to protect themselves when facing a public health threat is repeating itself with the current monkeypox spread of the disease,”
I know the MP breakout sure has caused me to have second thoughts about trying ghey men seks....My theory is that monkey pox has been around all along, but natural immunities kept in check. All of these covid shots and boosters screwed up our body's ability to fight it.
