I do not know of anything. I was able to one in Lexington Park & one in Upper Marborlo. Do you know anything about Beddows? What has your experience been with them? We are also looking at Montessori School and very disappointed at the selection in the are.

I've only toured Beddows and asked a lot of questions. While I enjoyed meeting the director and was impressed with the school and class sizes, we determined that the tuition was just too expensive for a 2-3 year old, particularly since we would need both before and after care. I, too, am very disappointed in the selection in our area.

We decided on Waldorf Baptist for next year.

Beddow Montessori

I would not recomend this school. I don't think it is sanctioned by any of the National or international Montessori Associations. I am not sure why not--- cost or just simply not meeting their standards.

Although we have not attended the school, the board and administration were totally inflexible. We were told that you would be able to withdraw from the school if there were extenuating circumstances without paying for the entire year. However, after probing this issue a little further, there really is no extenuating circumstance. We were told that if my child withdrew from this school (we are talking about be absent for a semester not 1 month) to get life saving treatment (DC has cancer), it would not be considered an extenuating circumstance and the school & the board would likely would sue to enforce the contract. If this is not an extenuating circumstance, I do not know what is. Additionally, when we asked if we could try out the summer camp for 1 week to make sure it was a good fit, we were told that it was 1 month or nothing.

After talking to some families, I found 2 families that were kick out of beddow...without trying to solve the problems with the family. Also, heard about a family that withdrew their child because at 2nd grade DC could not read. I love the idea of a Montessori School. However, from our dealings with this school...it does not practive the montessori theories and is all about making money (not teaching children). They do not believe that all students can learn. Our discussions with the teacher was centered around her rules and how my child would need to follow them--- not about how she could teach my child or any child.

If another Montessori School were to open in Charles County, I believe beddow would have no schools. I wish I worked in St. Mary's County-- Bay Montessori would be a possibility.
