Well, it seems to me that the newspaper in question must have been deep into MAGA, Joe's world doesn't allow that, dontchaknow.

When do we say enough is enough?! Rural newspaper raided and computers confiscated because of potential reporting of a local restaurant owner’s DUI.

Liberals that are looking for an accurate definition of "fascism", here it is. These liberals wear that word well.

Remember when we thought cops and military personnel would never side with the fascists to kick in the doors of private citizens? We were so cute back then I want to pinch our cheek.

That's largely why the fascists demonized and destroyed both the armed forces and police - to get rid of anyone with integrity and install their mindless thugs.

Anyway, this raid was clearly illegal but nothing will be done about it. That restaurant owner must be some kind of big kingpin that she can order something like this to protect herself.

Any organization can be corrupted

all it takes is for one Democrat to get in to a position of authority, fill subordinate positions with like-minded scum, and eventually the organization becomes poisoned.

no better examples than government and public education system.

Umm NO ... I read a lot of history

Me too, so you'd think I'd have been less naive. Until just a few years ago I had a romanticized impression of Americans as can-do take no sh*t patriots, forgetting completely that they are humans at the end of the day and that wins out over everything else.

So let me amend that to " *I* thought cops and military personnel would never side with the fascists to kick in the doors of private citizens." But there are still a lot of folks out there who have the same ingenuous mindset, so at least I came to eventually.

Boy do you remember when the simple St Mary's County newspaper caper was considered an "attack" against freedom of the press? I didn't realize that Ken Rossignol got a $425,000 settlement.

Remember when Mike Dukakis said a fish rots from the head down? Biden is pretty fishy, must be why he spends all that time at Rehoboth.

First Amendment Concerns Raised After Police Seize Materials From Small-Town Kansas Newspaper Office And Staff Homes During Raid

According to the search warrant reported by The Epoch Times, the judge authorized police to seize material related to identity theft allegations of Kari Newell, a local coffee shop business owner. The newspaper reportedly received a tip that Newell allegedly drives without a valid driver’s license after a traffic offense in 2008.

Although a reporter verified the information, Meyer told local media he decided not to publish the story. Instead, he notified the police based on suspicions of being set up by an unknown source. When authorities contacted Newell, she allegedly accused the Record at a city council meeting of illegally obtaining and disseminating personal information that only law enforcement, private investigators, and insurance agencies could access.

Meyer then published an article sequencing the timeline of events on Thursday, less than 24 hours before police executed the search warrant.

“Not only did they have information that was illegal for them to obtain in the manner in which they did, but they sent it out as well,” Newell told CNN, adding the paper published the story “strictly out of malice and retribution for me asking him to exit my establishment.”

Earlier this month, the publisher said he and reporter Phyllis Zorn went to Newell’s coffee shop for a public meeting event with US Representative Jake LaTurner (R-KS) but were told to leave by the local police chief at the request of Newell.

Newell reportedly said she asked Meyer and Zorn to leave out of concerns the constituents would face the risk of being misquoted by the Record, which she said: “has a long-standing reputation for twisting and contorting comments within our community.”

Newell described the situation to The New York Times as the Record violating her privacy rights instead of exercising the First Amendment.

Meyer said in his newspaper’s report that he believes the raid was prompted by a story published last week about a local restaurant owner, Kari Newell. Newell had police remove Meyer and a newspaper reporter from her restaurant early this month, who were there to cover a public reception for U.S. Rep. Jake LaTurner, a Republican representing the area. The police chief and other officials also attended and were acknowledged at the reception, and the Marion Police Department highlighted the event on its Facebook page.

The next week at a city council meeting, Newell publicly accused the newspaper of using illegal means to get information on a drunk driving conviction against her. The newspaper countered that it received that information unsolicited, which it sought to verify through public online records. It eventually decided not to run a story on Newell’s DUI, but it did run a story on the city council meeting, in which Newell confirmed the 2008 DUI conviction herself.

A two-page search warrant, signed by a local judge, lists Newell as the victim of alleged crimes by the newspaper. When the newspaper asked for a copy of the probable cause affidavit required by law to issue a search warrant, the district court issued a signed statement saying no such affidavit was on file, the Record reported.
