Here is the Cleveland news with more in depth information:

More information is needed before I'm ready to make a judgement against the school board, but they don't seem to be terrible concerned about this situation. I'd first fire and perhaps bring charges against the "teacher" who distributed this garbage:

  • “Choose how you will die.
  • Write a scene that begins: ‘It was the first time I killed a man.’
  • Describe your favorite part of a man’s body using only verbs.
  • You have a dream that you’ve murdered someone. Who is it, how and why did the murder happen, and what happens afterward?
  • You are a serial killer. What TV shows are on your DVR list? Why?
  • The kill fee.
  • Write a sex scene you wouldn’t show your mom.
  • Rewrite the sex scene from above into one that you’d let your mom read.
  • You have just been caught in bed by a jealous spouse. How will you talk your way out of this?
  • Write a sermon for a beloved preacher who has been caught in a sex scandal.
  • Describe a time when you wanted to orgasm but couldn’t.
  • Ten euphemisms for sex.
  • You are a brand-new suicide-hotline counselor. Describe how you feel during the course of your first call.
  • Write a letter from the point of view of a drug addict.
  • Drink a beer. Write about the taste.
  • Write an X-rated Disney scenario.
  • A roomful of people who want to sleep together.
  • The first time you had sex.”
So whoever put together these writing prompts a skeevy pervert, but they're the "San Francisco Writer's Grotto" so of course they are. The problem is that a high school teacher thought this book was appropriate for 15 & 16 year olds - that's who I'd go after. S/he either didn't actually read the book before s/he gave it out, or did read the book and thought it was just fine to encourage teens to write sex fantasies and engage in underage alcohol consumption.

Either way, this teacher used extremely poor judgement and needs to get gone.

Yet more manufactured outrage you nom nom nom.

The kids aren't 15 &16. This is a college course, for college credit, which uses college text books. They will be college students next academic year. This book has been used for many years. Furthermore, they were given specific prompts to use as part of the assignment.

From the piece:

I’ve spoken to a judge this evening and she’s already confirmed that. So I’m going to give you a simple choice: either choose to resign from this board of education or you will be charged,” Hudson Mayor Craig Shubert said during the school board meeting on Monday.

Yea, that's not quite the way it works. For one, if this is a crime, charge them. But making a threat under color of law is in and of itself a crime. Second, The Mayor doesn't have the power to extract resignations in this way. School Boards are elected officials just like he is.

The real issue here is the Republican Mayor is ticked off at a mask mandate in the school system, passed by the BoE, and he's trying to establish street cred among the mouth breathers. He probably has his sights set on ascending to higher office. Good luck, dude.

In short, you've been had. Again. Someone on twitter tells you to outrage, so you breathlessly ctrl-c, ctrl-v and wait for the sycophants to join you in your rage.

I bet these students are embarrassed beyond belief at the actions of their pearl-clutching parents. And they should be.

It's fascinating watching you take up for skeevy perverts who want to read the sex fantasies of high school students and encourage underage drinking. Says a lot about you.

Exactly what I figured -- you now realize you've been played.

AGAIN.

Maximum phony outrage, all the time!

This is why parents need to go to school and find out what their kids are being taught.
