Most crashes for an intersection in St Marys?

The saddest part is that 99% of the accidents at that intersection are due to two things:

-Speed
-Lack of situational awareness.

It seems like every time I go to San Souci there's a wreck at that intersection, so I vote for that one.

In this instance I'm guessing the guy was drunk, since he took off. What a maroon, like cops won't know who he is by the vehicle registration.

I'll reserve judgement until our resident know-it-all gets here to explain to everyone how vehicle registration and traffic control devices are a violation of the constitutional rights and the police caused it all by responding to the accident.

I'm voting for this one. 3-4 a month it seems.
I was wondering why the pickup looked like it hit the light pole - didn't see the SUV with all the flashing lights and such.

I don't know, the area of Buck Hewitt and 235 might be even worse.

In all cases, the answer is ignorance (of traffic rules). Seems the defense is always, "well the law says I can..."
They simply forget the caveat that goes along with that. Like, the law says I can make a right turn on read, they forget the part about coming to a complete stop and yielding the right of way to the traffic that has the green light.
I frequently see people coming off Hermanville (making a left on to NB235, turn left while the vehicle with the right of way is trying to make a right.
Not only that, but they also decide they want to be in the right lane. I believe the traffic regulation say you should turn into the closest lane and then switch lanes.

And the other one who insists that speed is never a factor.

Do you refer to "Speeding"? Because many accidents happen at established "speed" limits. I only say this due to the propaganda put out by governments when they say "speed kills". Traveling at posted speed limits can kill if things go sideways, even at 35 mph. I do agree with your "Lack of situational awareness" being the cause of a vast majority of accidents though. Had the driver of the GMC been looking and scanning properly before arriving at the intersection, they most likely would have been able to determine that other truck was not going to stop and avoided going sideways.

Speed is almost always a contributing factor, but rarely the causal factor since you need to be going faster than zero to be in a crash in most cases. When the NHTSA actually sent investigators to crash scenes and did real science, not just collate police reports, they found speed was the cause of only around 3% of crashes. Driver stupidity was the massive majority.

235 and Buck Hewitt, I think that could be fixed with a few hundred bucks worth of those upright traffic sticks, placed so that you couldn't come out of WaWa and head across three lanes to the left turn onto Buck Hewitt, and so that you couldn't exit CVS onto 235 SB heading for Rue Purchase's turn lane.

In the last week I've seen two different idiots at the Hermanville intersection doing the same thing.

They're in the north bound turn lane. South bound gets the dual green light (left turn to gate three and straight southbound).

Idiots still have a red light, and make the left turn onto Hermanville to get to the Blimpie.

I just can't imagine what they're thinking.

As I come out of work, wanting to take the left onto SC 235, always one joker coming straight across who wants to waive thier ROW and let me make the left. "No, take your damn ROW and lets not confuse everybody".
