The worst part is the mouth. I have had to stop myself in my tracks from nailing mine right square in it.

I was raised primarily by my father, as were my other 2 sisters, and we had none of that. My father would have beat the living tar out of us for talking back and did.

You need to yell in your manly voice and tell them both ENOUGH.
My son can get a case of "smart mouth" but I knock it out of him quick (not directly in the mouth but I have come close). I just take things away to remind him, he is not the boss around here!

If my husband ever did that while me and one of the kids are going at it...I'd knock him on his ass. At least I'd try.
Seriously, I notice the boys and my husband go back and forth just as much as my daughters and I do.

When I go back and forth with the boys, my husband will pipe up and yell "do what your mother told you NOW!!!"
And that is the end of that.

My oldest boy calls me Sybil...and tells people...you do NOT want to see the other side.

the funny thing here is when I do try to yell at the kid to make her go do whatever it is she is obviously not doing,, Pan lady yells at me for yelling at the kid. then I get pissed and yell at pan lady,, then pan lady goes in the room with the kid and they both talk bad about me.
When I go back and forth with the boys, my husband will pipe up and yell "do what your mother told you NOW!!!"
And that is the end of that.
Im leaning towards that duel with USAgent.
sometimes for limited reasons I really envy the life of the rump ranger.

after I "go off" on my mutts, my 17 yr old comes down after I've calmed down and always says "is Ethel gone now or should I come back in a little while"

I heard mine talking about me one day to his friend on the phone. He said, I think my mother is bi-polar - she was nice to me when she got home from work then went off on me for no reason.I was like NO REASON? Like hell no reason, you didn't put your laundry away and I asked you 3 times.
Oh but to his friends, I'm bi-polar and go off for no reason.
The youngest seeing this quickly remembers he didn't do his chores either and will rush off and get them done so progress I say....

It's all I can do to keep from throttling my son sometimes because of his mouth. He knows as soon as he sees the three wrinkles between my eyebrows get tighter that he done screwed up! My 10 yr. old girl ain't that savvy yet! She has ADD and by the time she gets home from school her meds have worn off. It takes her 45 mins. to an hour to feed the cats!!!! I have to stay on her constantly to get it done or she will piddle around all afternoon! That's when my BiPolar starts showing!
