Vehicle 1 passenger: Mario Antonio Mejia (H/M, 22 yoa)
On June 15, 2020 at approximately 2114 hours, Easton Barrack was dispatched to a rollover collision involving a single vehicle in the area of westbound U.S. Route 50, west of Bucktown Road, Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland.
Upon arrival to the scene at approximately 2120 hours a 2005 Nissan Rogue bearing Maryland registration, 198Z55 was observed on its roof, blocking all westbound travel lanes of U.S. Route 50. The front seat passenger who was later identified as, Mario Antonio Mejia (H/M, 22 years of age, was still trapped in the vehicle. Witness’s advised that the driver fled the scene, prior to the arrival of law enforcement. Witnesses were able to provide a description and last known location of the driver.
The initial investigation revealed that the blue Nissan was traveling eastbound U.S. 50, east of Church Creek Road. For unknown reasons, the blue Nissan traveled off the roadway to the left, striking the curb and up onto the center median. The blue Nissan traveled onto the center median, striking a tree and a light pole, flipping over onto its roof, coming to a final resting position in the westbound travel lanes.
The driver was located outside of Americas Best Value Inn, on the eastbound side of U.S. Route 50 (across from the collision scene) at approximately 2130 hours. While speaking with the driver, the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from his breath. While speaking with the driver he became unconscious. Paramedics advised the driver was flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma for his injuries.
No identification for the driver was located on him or in the vehicle. Three small clear bags of Marijuana were located inside the vehicle. The roadway was closed for approximately two hours and twenty minutes. State Highway Administration was able to direct traffic. Also assisting was the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office and Cambridge PD.
The investigation is continuing.
