Moving to a house: want to hear ..

SeaRide

......
some tips on moving to a house. Silly tips are more than welcome. Offensive tips are .. well , you know it's offensive.

We will do the pre-settlement walk through tomorrow morning around 9:45 am to make sure everything's okay. I am moving my stuff and my finace's stuff tomorrow from my parents' house to our house after the settlement.

The distance between my parents' house to my house is about 4.5 miles.

We plan on moving some stuff to the 2-car garage space and some stuff to the finished basement.

We do not really have any tight schedule regard to moving the stuff.

I need to hear some tips and laugh a bit. I guess I am kinda excited and anxious about moving to the house.

Thanks.

Congratulations!

Just don't try to do everything at once, even though you want to. Give yourselves time to move in and get to know your new space first.

I saw this on the side of a moving truck once.

"Wear plenty of deoderant on moving day" Sounds like a good tip to me.

My Dad asked me if I want to eat some crabs that he will catch tomorrow morning. *sigh* My Dad said he will return home with at least 2 bushels of crabs and be on time to help me with hauling the stuff to the house.

:drooling for some crabs:

Congratulations!

Do a happy dance  in every room of the house to ward off the bad vibes of previous occupants. Don't forget the garage.

Yeah...I saw couple other moving tips.

Don't pack dogs and cats together.

Dolly good....hernia bad.

But wait, there's more...
Congratulations on the house and engagement.

If you haven't packed everything yet, use things like linens, towels, blankets, etc. for padding things in boxes vs. scrounging up a bunch of newspaper which will likely leave the print marks on things.

If you can manage it, leave clothes in the dressers ... makes for less unpacking once you get there.

If you can afford them, get rubbermaid rough tote bins from Lowes/Home Depot/Walmart instead of boxes. They're easier to move, easier to store after you move (vs. trying to trash a bunch of boxes), sturdier than most boxes, and you can reuse them for storing Christmas decorations, winter/summer clothes, etc.

Good luck with the move!

Congrats on the house and engagement

Moving Sucks completely....but some things to help are....

Mark your boxes well- especially if it is a day to day item

Put plastic down on the areas that are gonna be walked thru especially if it is raining.

Load up on shelf paper, paper towels, cleaning stuff, etc...

Try to shampoo the carpets before you get the furniture in there.
