Hello All,

We are transferring to Patuxent River in just over a month. We will be living on base. I was wondering if anyone could tell me which you all think would be better Direct Tv or cable. Also which internet provider do you use? i would prefer to have high speed. I see online that Direct Tv offers internet and i was wondering how that is? Phone service (land line), do you use vonage or verizon?

How are the schools? I have 2 in grade school and one in middle getting ready to go to High school.

Thank you for taking the time to read and any help would be greatly appreciated.

From where are you coming (makes a big difference in answering your school question)? Welcome! Most places around here can't use DirectTV, and the cable system here works like they have no competition.

Splain this please

Too many trees. Do we have any open areas?

I live in the woods and trees are all around. I have Direct with no problem  They can pretty much put the dish anywhere and run the cable.
Now, when I did have a dangling branch, it interfered a bit with the dish. Once the branch came down, it was back to normal.

I live in one of the most wooded developments in these parts, and I have DirecTV. Wouldn't bother getting anything else.

My apology. I live in California, and get huge laughs when I call a satellite company for service. Won't even come to my house to see, they just tell me to stop calling. Same for everyone in and around my neighborhood. I miss DirectTV.
We're in Town Creek with tons of trees and we have DirectTV.

I was just confused as to why you said no satellite. I might have cable internet but I will not give up my satellite t.v. :boxing:

Direct TV def.....The cable company around here sucks. They are outrageously priced, and you get more channels for close to the same price with direct TV

As for direct tv/trees on base, not so much a problem, there aren't many in housing, you see satellite dishes everywhere. Can't really say what the difference is, I have never had direct tv, I just do basic cable (metrocast). For phone, we stick with verizon, no problems. We also have dsl through verizon, only the occasional outages. For schools, there are quite a few elementaries, which one you go to will depend on which housing you get. Here's a link to the county school system: http://www.smcps.k12.md.us/
And a link to Lincoln Military Housing here if you don't have it yet:

Any other questions I might be able to help you with, feel free to PM me. Hope your move goes smoothly!

We lived onbase for a year when we moved here in 2003 and you definitely want to have Direct TV. As long as your unit has a clear view of the Southern sky then you're okay. Direct TV also offers internet package with Verizon for an affordable price. As far as school, if you live on base the school where you kids go to depends on which base housing you're occupying (this is before Lincoln Company took over). Contact the Fleet Family Support Center FFSC at 301 342 4911 or log on to the Navy's Sites website.

I live in Town Creek and have Direct TV for watching TV. I have Verizon DSL for Intrent. They told me the same "In town creek (HAHA)". Well I've got it and it works find. I am unable to get HD though. HD requires being able to see three of the five sat. And I'm only able to see two. As far as DirectWay (Direct TV's Interent). It is A LOT OF MONEY, I would say get Verizon DSL and save a butt load of money. Can say for the school system since my daughter is only 2 and will not be going for a few more years. Good luck on the move and welcome to Southern Maryland.

My kids are both in Green Holly, and I'm very happy with it there.
