So I go to mow today and I am just about done when the plate that covers the place where the oil filter should be ruptures and spews scalding hot oil on my leg.
So I am looking for parts and Sears is useless so I go to Briggs and Stratton's web site and there is no cover plate, there is a nipple. (Heh I said nipple)
Lets time warp back.
When I bought my mower, Craftsman with a 20hp Briggs Intec V twin, it did not have an oil filter. The sales gooober said some models have pressurized oil systems some do not, yours does not. I took off the cover and true there is no nipple (heh I said nipple again) so I cannot put on a filter. I put the cover back and used the mower for 4 years no problem.
So now today the cover I took off cracked around the center and spewer high pressure oil all over my leg. I immediately shut it down and get the model number and come to explore. I look at the Illustrated Parts List provided by Briggs and find "oil pump" in the list.
Now initially I figured that Briggs uses the same block for several engines and the sales goober said mine was not a pressurized system so they just block it off. NOW given the velocity of the oil blowing out that crack and the "oil pump" being in the parts list I think the goober had no damn clue WTF he was talking about and the blank off plate over the oil filter hole is something they do for shipping.
Anyone have any intimate knowledge of Briggs? I think I will order the nipple (Heh, that's 3 times I said nipple) and a filter.
